Three Tidbit Stories

Our Time.

3 random tidbit stories in about 3 minutes.

1.

Our Time FAQ.

Yes. All ideas start as irrational until proven. Just because an idea is popular or compelling does not make it true. The claim that particles, atoms, and molecules exist in all possible states at once remains speculative, and currently, there is not enough solid evidence to confirm it.

Yes, experiments like the double-slit experiment hint at it, but hints are not proof. What we actually observe is an interference pattern that suggests particles behave like waves of probability—not direct evidence that they physically exist in multiple places simultaneously.

A key principle of critical thinking is recognizing the difference between observations and interpretations. The observation is clear: quantum systems behave in a way that suggests multiple possibilities exist before measurement. The interpretation that these possibilities are physically real in all states at once is a hypothesis, not a conclusion.

This is where cognitive caution is required. Some interpretations, like Many-Worlds, take the math literally and assume all possibilities actually exist in parallel realities. But interpretations are not reality—they are models we use to describe what we see.

For now, the most rational stance is to acknowledge that quantum mechanics deals with potential states, and until we have clear, repeatable experimental confirmation that all states truly exist at once, the rational position is skepticism. Quantum physics remains an open question—not a settled fact.

Our Time Story.

700,000 Years Ago

Full emotional intelligence (EI) likely emerged around this time in species such as Homo antecessor and Homo heidelbergensis. EI heralds the dawn of a new era where emotional intelligence began to take a recognizable shape.

Analysis: With indications of complex social structures, more potential for language, and advanced tool-making abilities, these species navigated their world with a level of social cognition and emotional awareness that surpassed their predecessors. Their ability to cooperate in hunting, share resources, care for the injured or ill, and possibly mourn their dead, points towards an emerging capacity for understanding the emotional states of others, fostering group cohesion and survival.

Our Time Story.

3 Dec 1791

The first ten amendments to the U.S. Constitution are called the Bill of Rights. They were added to protect individuals and states from an overly powerful federal government. They safeguard core freedoms like speech, religion, press, assembly, due process, fair trials, protection from unreasonable searches, and limits on cruel punishment. In short, they define a protected zone around the individual.

It was written two years after the signing of the Constitution and ratified by three-fourths of the states in 1791. Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Georgia refused. In 1939, the three decliners symbolically sent their approvals to Congress.

Amendments:

And now, here are the first 10 amendments.

1: Freedom of speech, press, of and from religion, assembly, and the right to petition the government.
2: Right to bear arms.
3: Protection against housing soldiers in civilian homes.
4: Protection against unreasonable search and seizure, and the issuing of warrants without probable cause.
5: Protection against trial without indictment, double jeopardy, self-incrimination, and property seizure.
6: Right to a speedy trial, to be informed of charges, confronted by witnesses, witnesses, and legal counsel.
7: Right to trial by jury.
8: Protection against excessive bail, fines, and cruel and unusual punishment.
9: Rights granted in the Constitution shall not infringe on other rights.
10: Powers not granted to the Federal Government in the Constitution belong to the states or the people.
