Mike’s throwback title simply means he writes about philosophy, science and history with a focus on exploring boundaries and intersections. While his focus is on our rational ideas about empirical observations, he does enjoy dabbling in the irrational. While his empirical viewpoint requires a skeptical view of the irrational, he enjoys exploring speculative ideas that attempt to embrace our empirical observations. His exploration of the empirical led him to develop his Idea of Ideas which allows him to understand what is empirical, rational, and irrational, as well as to easily understand what is empirically true, rational true, and irrationally false. This includes understanding the difference between unproven speculative ideas and disproven ones as well as the difference between historical and fictional stories. All this allows him to explore the irrational with depth. While exploring science-based speculation, his empirical viewpoint requires critical thinking combined with understanding that there are things that are currently unknown, which we can figure out, and things that are unknowable, which we can never figure out.
He delves into a variety of subjects which are represented on this website under the four major topics and their subtopics. For example, under science, he focuses on cosmology, physics, and evolution to understand our philosophical place in the world. The intersection of the particles of your body and their 13.8-billion-year journey from space to Earth to various beings on Earth, asking not just what we are, but why we are, and what we should do about it.

One of the goals of this website it to continue the work of Roger Williams. What do I mean by that? Roger Williams helped humanity leap forward in our quest for truth and knowledge. He succeeded at seeing past partisan politics, and traditional values by using an empirically-based critical thinking philosophy.
Roger Williams Legacy
Another goal of this website is to document the legacy of Roger Williams. This includes documenting people and events that influenced him, his life’s work, the influence of his work on the world with a focus on the American Founding Fathers, and applying the same concepts he applied to today’s politics.
Roger Williams used the truth hammers to plant the seeds of our modern society. He was born about 1602 and was keenly aware of the life’s work of Francis Bacon (1561-1626) who developed the scientific method. Roger Williams trained in the law profession prior to switching to theology so he had a unique look at the world. During his lifetime he published some of the most important books and writings of his time. One such book, “The Bloudy Tennant of Persecution” lead humanity into the future of our modern multi-cultural multi-religious pluralistic society. He planted the seeds that took nearly 400 years to grow into the society we have today.
