Plato was a Greek philosopher born in Athens. He was a student of Socrates and a teacher of Aristotle. Plato’s Theory of Forms asserts that the reality is only a shadow, or image, of the true reality of the Realm of Forms — abstract, perfect, unchanging concepts or ideals that transcend time and space.

Plato reminds us that what we see is not always the whole story. Humans use abstract ideas, categories, and ideals to make sense of the changing world around us.

Plato pushed philosophy beyond what we can immediately see and touch. Even if we reject his literal Realm of Forms, his deeper insight remains useful: appearances can mislead, while concepts help us organize reality. Wisdom means understanding both the world before you and the ideas you use to interpret it.
