About TST Philosophy
TST Philosophy is science-first natural philosophy for thinking clearly and living well.
In traditional terms, it is a practical philosophy that integrates ethics, metaphysics, and epistemology. It begins with one ethical aim: flourishing for all. From there, it grounds that aim in a realist view of the world: reality exists independently of our thoughts, but our access to it is always mediated by perception, language, culture, reason, and belief.
That is the metaphysical split at the heart of TST Philosophy:
Reality is the material world, the one substance, that exists whether we notice it, name it, or believe in it. Thought is the human layer of ideas, models, stories, symbols, beliefs, and interpretations we use to understand that world.
Reality exists with or without us. But metaphysics, as humans practice it, must include our thoughts about reality. Our ideas are not the world itself, but they are how we encounter, describe, debate, and refine our understanding of what exists. They are real patterns in the material world, not separate substances beyond it.
That split matters.
It rejects naïve realism, because we do not experience reality without mediation. It rejects relativism, because not all interpretations are equally grounded. Reality pushes back. Some ideas align with the world better than others.
TST gives science priority where evidence speaks, gives reason an honored place where logic applies, and asks speculation to remain humble where mystery remains.
In plain terms, TST Philosophy asks:
What is real?
What can we honestly know?
How do ideas work?
How should we live?
The answer unfolds through a practical architecture:
One Goal: flourishing for all.
Two Layers: the material world and our ideas about it.
Three Truth Hammers: science, law, and journalism (public truth systems).
Four Mind Traps: fallacies, biases, heuristics, and stereotypes.
Five Thought Tools: viewpoint, ideas, reasoning, constructs, and evaluation.
The result is not a doctrine to memorize. It is a disciplined way to think, question, adjust, and live with more clarity.
About TouchstoneTruth.com
TouchstoneTruth.com brings TST Philosophy to life through two main areas: TST Practice Tools and the writing of Michael Alan Prestwood.
Together, they create a science-first wisdom site for curious people who want to think well, live well, and build wisdom over time.
TST Practice Tools
TST Practice Tools help turn good ideas into daily reminders, habits, and inner wisdom.
Today’s Practice gives you a short daily path through timeless ideas. Each day includes about 8 minutes of classic reminders from history’s greatest thinkers. It is designed to be simple, useful, and repeatable: a daily touchstone for clearer thinking and better living.
Wisdom Builder helps you study TouchstoneTruth by topic. On mobile, it works like a lightweight wisdom app. You can browse a topic, read a short set, listen on the go, or study with flashcards. It is built for daily life: walks, chores, breaks, commutes, or quiet moments when you want something better than scrolling.
Read. Listen. Reflect. Study. Repeat.
Over time, the ideas settle in. They become part of your inner voice.
The Writing of Michael Alan Prestwood
TouchstoneTruth.com is also the philosophical living touchstone project of Michael Alan Prestwood’s writing.
That writing includes The Prestwood Column, articles, tidbits, FAQs, timelines, vocabulary, research notes, and book-related material. The work brings philosophy, critical thinking, science, and history together through timeless ideas made practical.
The Prestwood Column is Mike’s monthly column. Each month explores one central idea through a main column, supporting research, tidbits, and related material. The goal is simple: add one meaningful idea to your worldview each month.
The timelines place ideas in history.
The tidbits make complex topics easier to approach.
The articles go deeper when a subject deserves more room.
The vocabulary stabilizes key terms.
The books provide the larger journey.
Together, the writing and practice tools create the heart of TouchstoneTruth: a place to read, listen, reflect, study, and slowly build a worldview that can survive contact with reality.
Think well. Live well. Build wisdom.
A Living Archive for Future Wisdom
TouchstoneTruth is growing into a long-term project: a curated library designed to evolve with the world. Each article, timeline story, tidbit, and Weekly Wisdom Builder entry helps build a structured archive that future tools can use to reconnect timeless ideas to present-day life.
My long-term goal is to help shape an AI assistant—my Holistic Eudaimonia Agent—that can one day steward this archive and continue surfacing thoughtful, grounded wisdom long after I’m gone. Not a copy of me, but a guide shaped by the philosophy and values I’ve spent my life refining.
