TST PHILOSOPHY:
Michael Alan Prestwood’s applied natural philosophy.
To think well is to walk humbly through reality, carrying the past while testing each step toward tomorrow.
Wisdom Mix.
Here are 5 random key ideas and takeaways.
Idea 1.
.
Cultural transmission is the passing of learned behavior, knowledge, and traditions from one generation to the next in all animals.
Subject: Evolution.
From crows teaching tool use to humans building libraries, cultural transmission allows knowledge to outlive the individual. It is one of evolution’s most powerful amplifiers, letting useful behaviors spread faster than genes alone ever could.
Idea 2.
From History: Atman, the idea of self..
.
Self is the idea that there is a deeper “true self” beneath the mind. Non-self is the idea that whatever the self is, it is not a fixed thing.
Subject: Human Agency.
Your worldview is your lens, how you see life. Your identity is how you see yourself in life. The traditional idea of self is the idea that there is a deeper “true self” beneath mind, body, and ego. Buddhism challenges this through two key ideas: non-self and emptiness. Buddhism accepts that you exist, but points out that what you think of as “self” is not a permanent thing. That is Buddhist non-self. The idea that nothing in reality is fixed, including the “self,” is Buddhist “emptiness.” And that’s empowering. Whatever your “self” is right now, you can evolve it. You can walk the path of life you want to walk. You have human agency.
Idea 3.
.
To live legal, moral, and fair, flourish with integrity. Act with good intent, watch the results, and adjust when life tells you to.
Subject: TST Ethics.
TST Ethics is a layered approach to moral life. Layered Empirical Realism grounds it and layered fairness guides it. Good intent matters, but results matter too. Responsibility weighs intent, results, context, harm, and fairness together. Try to live well, help others flourish, and leave the people and systems around you a little stronger than you found them.
Idea 4.
.
Live better by widening your circle of care. Start with yourself and those closest to you, but don’t stop there. A flourishing life learns to care outward: family, friends, community, humanity, and the living world we all share.
Subject: Ethical Flourishing.
Humanism reminds us that caring well is not weakness. It is wisdom. You do not have to carry the whole world on your shoulders, but you can widen who counts. A better life grows when your choices help you flourish while also helping others flourish around you.
Idea 5.
.
In your life, let empirical beliefs track the material world. Spiritual beliefs can still explore meaning, purpose, essence, sacredness, and the unknown.
Subject: Spirituality.
An empirical belief gains confidence when reality supports it. Your spiritual beliefs may guide meaning, identity, ethics, or worldview, but don’t let them pretend to be empirical unless they also accept testing. When spiritual beliefs touch the material world, reality gets the final say.
